Eclipse 2019

The forecast was for snow continuing until about 6PM, about an hour and a half past the rise of the “Super Blood Moon” on Sunday night and then cloudy and overcast through midnight and the Lunar Eclipse. Based on that forecast I had no plans to attempt to photograph the eclipse and rather would stay warm and cozy inside  and away from the 13* temperatures.  Remarkably, at about 4:30 the skies started to clear and although the horizon was still overcast until about 7PM with no chance to catch the moonrise, by 9PM the skies were crystal clear.  Well “Carpe Diem” we said, and I began to assemble my gear for the shoot.  At 9:15 when we headed out it was 13* with a wind-chill of 7* and the wind was making everything shake including Katie and me.  Nonetheless we toughed it out and photographed from 9:30 and the start of the event through to midnight and the full eclipse with the temperature now down to 11* and the wind-chill of 3*  - with multiple dashes indoors to unfreeze the fingers and toes.
